WALK AGAINST POVERTY

Building Futures Together (BFT) sponsors its annual fund-raiser, the Tenth Annual Walk Against Poverty on September 19, 2009 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York.

The walk has been the fund-raising activity of choice of the members of the Board of BFT for the simple reason that it is fun and invigorating and very public. The first Walk Against Poverty began in the year 2000 and has taken place every year thereafter.

The purpose of the Walk is to raise awareness that poverty is the most vile illness inflicting three fourths of the world’s population including the provinces of Samar Island, considered one of the poorest if not the poorest provinces in the Philippines and a primary recipient or beneficiary of these walks.   More importantly, the Walk hopes to generate sufficient funds for the organization to run its programs of help and hope – a three-prong, community based programs, livelihood, health management and education, applied simultaneously, one community at a time.
